Terms of Service

The short version: Coral is a small, free app. Use it reasonably, keep ownership of what you create, and understand that we provide it as-is. These terms spell that out properly.

Last updated: July 12, 2026

Agreeing to these terms

By creating an account or using Coral (the app or this website), you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the service.

What Coral is

Coralis a set of language learning tools built and run as a small, unfunded experiment. It is currently free to use. Because it is an experiment, features may change, be added, or be removed over time, and we can't promise the service will exist forever. If we ever shut it down, we'll do our best to give you notice and time to export your data.

Your account

You need an account to use most of Coral. When you create one, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information (a real email you control).
  • Keep your credentials to yourself. You're responsible for activity that happens under your account.
  • Be at least 13 years old. Coral is not directed to children under 13.

If you think someone has accessed your account without permission, contact us and we'll help.

Your content

The decks, cards, vocabulary, conversations, and anything else you create in Coral belong to you. We claim no ownership over your content.

To actually run the service, we need your permission to handle that content on your behalf. So you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, transmit, and display your content, but only as needed to operate and improve the features you use (including sending it to the service providers described in our Privacy Policy, such as AI and text-to-speech services). This license ends when you delete your content or your account.

You're responsible for the content you create or import. Please only add material you have the right to use.

Acceptable use

Use Coral for learning languages, not for:

  • Anything illegal, or anything that infringes someone else's rights.
  • Harassing, abusive, or harmful content, whether aimed at other people or generated through the app's AI features.
  • Interfering with the service: probing for vulnerabilities, overloading our systems, scraping at scale, or bypassing rate limits or access controls.
  • Reselling, sublicensing, or offering the service to others as your own.
  • Attempting to reverse engineer the app, except where the law expressly permits it.

AI features

Parts of Coralare powered by AI models. AI output can be wrong, awkward, or misleading, and language models are no exception (we're candid about this on our How We Use AIpage). Treat generated translations, explanations, and conversation replies as practice material, not authoritative answers. You're responsible for how you use AI output from the app.

Payments and support

Coraldoesn't currently charge for anything. If you choose to support the project, that happens through external platforms (like Ko-fi) under their own terms. Support contributions are voluntary, aren't purchases of features or services, and are handled entirely by those platforms, so refunds, if any, follow their policies.

Our content

The app, this website, and the Coralname, logo, design, and code are ours (or our licensors'). We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for its intended purpose. That license doesn't include any right to copy, modify, or redistribute the app itself.

Third-party services

Coralrelies on third-party services (app stores, AI providers, hosting) and may link to external sites. We don't control those services and aren't responsible for their content or policies. Your use of them is governed by their own terms.

Ending things

You can stop using Coral at any time, and you can permanently delete your account and data from Settings → Your Data in the app.

We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, abuse the service, or create risk for us or other users. Where it's reasonable to do so, we'll warn you first. We can also modify or discontinue the service itself, as described above.

Disclaimers

Coralis provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-interruption. We don't guarantee the service will be error-free, secure, or always available, and we don't guarantee any particular learning results. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this may not apply to you.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) Coral. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (for a free app, likely nothing) or fifty US dollars. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain liability limits, so parts of this may not apply to you.

Indemnity

If your use of Coral, your content, or your violation of these terms causes a third party to bring a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and damages that result.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll update this page and revise the “last updated” date above, and for significant changes we'll make a reasonable effort to notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use Coral after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict of law rules. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ontario, though nothing here takes away consumer protections you may have under the laws where you live.

Miscellany

If part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a provision right away, we're not waiving it. These terms (together with the Privacy Policy) are the whole agreement between you and us about the service, and you can't transfer your rights under them to someone else without our consent.
