Coral is a flexible set of tools that complement your own, human-centric learning, and an honest look at what AI can (and can't) do for you.
How Coral started
We stumbled onto a few strategies we actually liked, like listening to content and recording the new words and phrases we heard during our commute. That took a few apps: Google Translate, something to play the content, and a flashcard app to store it all. So we built a small app to put everything in one place, and it was genuinely nice to use.
As LLMs got better at translation, we started chatting with them as a casual way to help our learning. It could be role play, a quick explanation of some grammar, or variations on language we already knew, like opposites and categories.
Combining the two was the natural next step. We could feed the language we actually cared about straight into an LLM, so we started adding AI features to the app.
Honestly, neither of us really liked the AI conversation part. It felt clunky, awkward, and unnatural. We tested a bunch of apps, and most of them felt the same, but we think there's a lot of room to improve.

Subscriptions priced far higher than anything on offer seems to justify.
They range from quite good and tasteful to outright scams. It makes sense: widespread LLM use is new, and we're all still figuring it out. It's still frustrating to watch, though, especially the scammy apps sitting at 4+ stars while spamming your feed with AI videos making absurd claims.
We want to cut through the noise of fake ads, fake reviews, and overblown promises, and give an honest look at what AI can actually do. We're slowly building on the workflows we actually use.
